Why can’t I forgive myself?

1 John 1:9 ESV // If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

2 Corinthians 7:10 // Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death.

Luke 22:59-62 // About an hour later another asserted, “Certainly this fellow was with him, for he is a Galilean.” 60 Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re 61 talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” 62 And he went outside and wept bitterly.

  • Guilt says, “I did something bad.”
  • Shame says, “I am bad.”
  • The devil wants to use your shame to drive you away from God.
  • God wants to use your guilt to draw you to His grace.
  • You can’t change your past, but God can change your future.

Philippians 1:6 // … being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
